Fuel level sensors

In 2004, talented engineers working at the Belarus State University of Information Technology and Electronic Engineering formed a creative outfit whose first viable idea was to design, for Minsk Tractor Works, a fuel level sensor that would operate on the principle of capacitance measurement. The idea led to industrial production and to the sensor’s becoming a standard feature of MTZ’s tractors. To date, the sensor is widely used to monitor fuel consumption as part of various GPS-based vehicle monitoring applications.

The ETS fuel sensor is designed to measure the level of diesel, petrol or lubricant oils. The sensor is intended to be used in vehicle or stationary fuel tanks for measuring the quantity of the fuel or lubricant contained in the tank. The sensor measures the extent to which its sensing assembly is immersed in the fuel/lubricant and generates a frequency, analogue or digital signal that corresponds to the level measured. The sensor is classed F (frequency), A (analogue) and RS (digital) based on the type of output signal that it generates.

An up to 6-metre long composite sensor obtained by fitting up to 3 extensions (each 1.5m long) to a 1.5m RS/F/A-type extensible sensor base.

Compared to the regular sensor, the sensing assembly of the extensible sensor has a larger diameter.

ETS sensors have been tested in practice by professionals. For more than 5 years, Metrotec has installed them on fuel tanks, railway engines, specialized machinery and a wide variety of other equipment and vehicles in Estonia, Latvia and Sweden.

ETS sensors are quality made and have a long use life. Their reliability is 99.8%.

ETS sensors allow ‘dry calibrated’ installation. In other words, this means that the technician’s job will be quick and clean. There is no need for funnelling fuel this way and that, or waste time on draining fuel tanks and filling them up again stepwise. Read more about dry calibration here.
